WRTO Malaysia Advances SDG Initiatives in Meeting with Mangrove Experts
Strategic Dialogue Explores Collaboration on Conservation, Education, and International Cooperation

The World Research Travel Organization (WRTO) Malaysia recently held a productive meeting with two esteemed mangrove experts, Prof. Dr. Aldrie and Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ghazally, to explore collaborative opportunities in line with the organization’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The session, which took place on 4 August 2026, provided a platform for meaningful dialogue on environmental conservation, research, and educational exchange. The WRTO delegation expressed its deep appreciation for the experts’ insights, leadership, and dedication to advancing sustainability and international cooperation.
Key Areas of Collaboration Discussed
During the meeting, several potential initiatives were identified to strengthen the partnership between WRTO and Prof. Dr. Aldrie, including:
- Advancing SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)– Collaboration focused on international cooperation in mangrove conservation and environmental sustainability.
- ASEAN-China Regional Cooperation & Development Forum 2026 (ACCD’26)– An invitation extended to Prof. Dr. Aldrie to serve as a distinguished panel speaker at the upcoming ACCD’26, scheduled for November 2026.
- Matang Mangrove Project– Joint development of a conservation and research project in the Matang Mangrove Forest, with the support and patronage of His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, Sultan of Perak. This initiative aims to promote mangrove conservation, scientific research, and sustainable development.
- Student Tourism & Environmental Education– Collaboration with Global Link Educational Tour Sdn. Bhd. to develop mangrove learning programmes, offering meaningful environmental education and experiential learning opportunities for students from Malaysia and abroad.

The discussions were described as both pleasant and highly productive, reflecting a shared vision for environmental stewardship and educational empowerment. These initiatives are expected to contribute significantly to mangrove conservation, cross-border knowledge exchange, and the broader mission of WRTO in promoting sustainable tourism and research.
